Black/African-American- 14.9%, 12.9%
American Indian/ Alaskan Native- 0.4%, 1.0%
Asian- 4.4%, 4.6%
Native Hawaiian/ Pacific Islander- 0.1%, 0.2%
Persons of Hispanic or Latino Origin- 15.2%, 15.8%
Persons Reporting Two or More Races- 1.3%, 1.7%
White Persons, Not Hispanic- 64.6%, 65.1%

The population of prisoners in the United States is very high. For every 100,000 people in the United States, 751 people are in prison. The ethnic breakdown of people in prison as of 2007 is as follows:
39% of the federal prison population is African-American (this is a percentage that is almost three times the US African-American population)
58% of the federal prison poulation is White
31% of the fedaral prison population is Hispanic/Latino
2% of the federal prison population is American Indian or Alaskan Native
2% of the federal prison population is Asian
